CT Screening Important Detection for Lung Cancer

It seems more lately that patients are “self-diagnosing” themselves and feeling the need to ask their physicians for what they want, rather than it being recommended to us. With the internet right at our fingertips, it’s hard not to do your own research on an ailment one might have before they head into their doctor’s appointment. Honestly, “knowledge is power” and when it comes to cancer, we should have as much information as possible!

Here is an article that states a CT (computed tomography) screening could reduce Lung Cancer deaths among high-risk individuals by 20%! If you are a smoker or have quit smoking within the last 15 years, please read this article!

San Diego Senior Olympic Games- Women’s Basketball!!

SHE aims, SHE shoots, SHE SCORES!!! Western Health Home Care had the pleasure of sponsoring the Women’s Basketball tournament during the 25th Annual San Diego Senior Olympic Games on Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th! It was an action packed weekend filled with dribbles, lay-ups, free-throws, and 3-pointers! Think you have to be a “young-buck” to play on these teams?? Well, think again! These women ranged in ages from 40+ all the way to 89….and they DON’T mess around either! Although good sports(wo)manship filled the San Diego Municipal Gym at Balboa Park, these basketball players took their games very seriously!

Western Health had a great time helping the athletes check-in on Saturday and continued our support all day Sunday! It really is inspirational to see women in their 60′s, 70′s and 80′s staying active, fit and healthy, while loving the sport they are playing. Every player we had the privilege of speaking to this weekend is not only truly passionate about Basketball, but they also love proving to “us younger generation” that fitness and staying active doesn’t just stop once you hit 40!

Please enjoy these photos taken by the San Diego Senior Olympic Games Executive Director, Danny Propp. For more information on how you can get involved in the games, please visit: SD Sr. Olympic Games or go to their Facebook page at San Diego Senior Games.

War Veterans: America’s REAL Life Super Heroes!

Superman, Spiderman, Batman….Twilight characters….Although these are great American Comic Book Super Heroes, their adventures can only be pictured in Comic Books and in movies. Did you know we have real life Super Heroes walking amongst us everyday??

With Comic Con taking off this week, we thought it would be a perfect time to talk about our REAL LIFE Super Heroes…our War Veterans. The men and women who have fought and are currently fighting for freedom and all the values Americans stand for and hold true today are the epitome of what it means to be a Super Hero.

Although most of the comic book characters are almost 80 years old, yet don’t look a day over 30, our real life super heroes do age…and most of them need assistance. Patient Advocate, Alex Asaro, visits the San Diego Living Show to discuss how we can help our super heroes….our War Veterans.

Western Health Home Care would like to thank the men and women of our Military and Armed Forces who devote their lives to our Freedom! We salute our Super Heroes!
